Staff Recommended Alternative
(The following alternative is being evaluated for release in March 2005)
Option 6 - One of 3 Cross-Sections Would Be Employed Along the Pkwy depending on conditions -
Narrowest Section
|----------------------------------------- 33 - 35'-------------------------------------------|
West _|------8 -10'----|---0.5'---|-----------10' ----------||-----------10.5'------------|--4'--| Lakeside
Ped/Bike Shy SB Lane NB Lane UnMrk'd Path Dist. Shoulder
Intermediate Section
|-------------------------------------------- 38'--------------------------------------------------|
West _|----10'----|----2.0'----|-1.5'-|-----------10' ----------||-----------10.5'------------|--4'--| Lakeside
Ped/Bike |Lnd'scp |Shy SB Lane NB Lane UnMrk'd Path |Buffer |Dist. Shoulder
Widest Section
|--------------------------------------------- 41'-------------------------------------------------|
West _|----10'----|----5.0'----|-1.5'-|-----------10' ----------||-----------10.5'------------|--4'--| Lakeside
Ped/Bike |Lnd'scp |Shy SB Lane NB Lane UnMrk'd Path |Buffer |Dist. Shoulder
Features:
1. SB Lane narrowed to 10 ft. throughout to produce narrowing effect, slowing speeds.
2. About half the project would accommodate one of the wider section that include a landscaped buffer.
3. The buffer would not be placed at driveways and roadways. About 44% of the Parkway would not have the buffer.
4. Strategic use of the alternative cross-sections will minimize the need for retaining walls. About 10% of the project would have walls of natural stone of 3 ft. height or less. Only one location would require a 6 ft. wall.
5. The east shoulder would not be marked but would be signed to restrict parking on the shoulder.
6. The Centerline of the road will remain in its present location.
7. The only requirement to acquire land would be for a signal at 34th north of Vasa Park.
| Comments: WLSA supports this alternative. It represents an acceptable balance between competing interests for use of the limited space along the Lake. Public Input at the Spring Neighborhood Meeting Feb. 16th supported carrying the alternative to the next stage of planning. Click here to see comments from that meeting. |
