The West Lake Sammamish Association is a community organization working to maintain the residential neighborhood character of the West Lake Sammamish Parkway area. (Contact Info. at bottom of this page)
Parkway Improvement Project After nearly 16 years, little has happened to improve the Parkway. WLSA has worked with local jurisdictions, such as Bellevue and Redmond, during that time to achieve improvements to balance needs of those who depend upon it. Sensing potential impacts to the neighborhood and the lake from a road widening as well as unbridled drainage from upland development, WLSA members have worked closely with recreational cyclists, delivery firms, and others to achieve an acceptable design. An acceptable road redesign was achieved more than 5 years ago. Since that time there has been only a survey of the road conducted. In 2009 the City polled residents on their preference for a first phase of improvements. They unanimously approved the southern most portion, but we are now informed that limited funds and competing projects may preclude if that scant level of improvement. - Newly elected WLSA president, Vic Bishop, and WLSA's board will sponsor an update on the project at a neighborhood meeting on May 10, 2010 at Vasa Park (7PM). Should you desire more information, feel free to contact WLSA or the City’s Project Manager, Paul Krawczyk (PKrawczyk@bellevuewa.gov). Additional information is available at the City’s project website http://www.bellevuewa.gov/west_lk_samm_prkwy.htm Background Information on the Parkway Project -
Bellevue Shoreline Master Program Update Bellevue Planning Commission is updating the city's Shoreline Master Program. These regulations will affect shoreline properties along the Parkway, as well as those on Lake Washington and Phantom Lake. Bellevue placed severe restrictions on lake front properties in 2006 and, with out property owner input, these 2006 Critical Area regulations will be retained. Keep up with the Commission's schedule by going to City Shoreline Webpage. Lakeside residents have formed a coalition to provide input to the City process. Redmond Shoreline Master Program Update (SMPU) The City of Redmond was the first lakeside jurisdiction to update its Shoreline Master Program (SMP). Adopted by City Council in early 2008 and forwarded to the State Dept. of Ecology for approval, innumerable hours of Parkway-Lakeside resident involvement were required to achieve a reasonable program.
